This new podcast from the POGIL Project "celebrates innovative educators, both in and out of the classroom." Each episode features a conversation with an educator or researcher on their inspiration for joining the field and advice on student-centered education. For example, in the first episode Executive Director of the POGIL Project Richard S. Moog, who is an award-winning chemistry professor, joins host Alex Grushow to disucss his research on "the impact of activity structure and team discourse on student learning." ATE PI Conference Materials Available

This year’s ATE PI Conference materials are now available! Recorded sessions are hosted for viewing on demand on the conference platform and will remain there until January 25, 2021. If materials for the session were provided, they are linked directly below the session abstract (as well as are available in the Materials box next to the chat window for the Concurrent, Spotlight, and Demonstration sessions). 

ATE Connects materials will also remain available on-demand for up to three months following the conference. PDF handouts in this section are downloadable from the site. To download, click on the three dots in the top right of the Adobe frame for the handout, and then click download.

Online Event: Society for Women Engineers Annual Conference

This year's Soceity for Women Engineers annual conference (WE20) is going virtual! The event will take place as a 2-week online conference and career fair from November 2-13, 2020 with a leadership pre-conference October 26-30, 2020.

The event will feature a mixture of live, semi-live, and on-demand sessions on topics ranging from creating leadership programs for women to networking for working moms. A full schedule can be found on the conference site. The conference will also host keynotes from Laura Maxwell, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain at PepsiCo Foods North America; Sundari Mitra, Corporate Vice President, Design Engineering Group & General Manager, IP Engineering Group at Intel; Jennifer Rumsey, Vice President and President Components Business at Cummins Inc.; and Linda DuCharme, President of Upstream Business Development and Integrated Solutions at ExxonMobil.

Archiving with ATE Central

Wednesday, October 21, 1:00 – 1:30 p.m. EDT

Making the deliverables of your grant available through the ATE Central resource portal ensures discoverability and long-term access to your work. Adding a Creative Commons license before submission can encourage others to further share, use, and build upon a work that you created. Please join ATE Central staff as we demonstrate how to select and affix Creative Commons licenses to sample resources and how to submit those resources to ATE Central via the archive submission form. This event will be pre-recorded and delivered synchronously with live presenter chat.

Webinar: Top Ten Tips for Teaching Student Veterans from the Classroom to Online

Military veterans transitioning from service to community college bring experiences that can be incredible assets to a classroom along with others that can be barriers to success. Hearing loss, a commonly overlooked disability in the veteran population, is often one of these barriers. The presenters will discuss findings of focus groups conducted with student veterans with hearing loss that provide insight to the unique educational needs of these students and best practices for their success in the STEM classroom and how they can be applied in the online setting. Stay for the last half hour to have your questions answered by a panel of student veterans.

Webinar: ATE Conference Orientation Webinar

AACC will host an ATE Virtual Conference Orientation Webinar designed for all conference attendees. The webinar will provide an orientation to the 2020 Virtual ATE Conference, and an overview of the agenda, the virtual platform, and ways to network and maximize engagement in a virtual setting. The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2020, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Participants are encouraged to attend the live event, if possible, in order to have the opportunity to ask questions. The webinar will also be recorded and available on this site following the live event. To register for this event, use this form.

PI Conference Submission Deadline: ATE Connects Sessions

The deadline to submit your project’s or center’s required ATE Connects Session materials is October 7, 2020. All ATE projects and centers are required to do so.

The ATE Connects session is a key component of this year’s virtual conference and offers ATE projects and centers the opportunity to network and connect with conference participants, explore the ATE community, and engage in the sharing of information, resources, and materials related to their programs.

All ATE projects and centers should prepare a one-page PDF handout as well as a 90-second video or audio PowerPoint presentation that highlights some of their key innovations. First-time grantees are not required to create a 90-second video or audio file, but may choose to do so. As part of the ATE Connects submission process, each grant will also be asked to provide contact information, a session abstract, and a relevant URL and/or social media handles (if available). ATE Connects submissions will be grouped by STEM discipline categories, and searchable by STEM technician education focus areas, which can be selected upon completing the submission form. This industry-wide web series is designed to prepare engineering and technology students for The Fourth Industrial Revolution. The goal is to reach a consensus on improvements to curricula, work-based experiences, policies, and practices.
