Introduction
You will now build off of the information you learned and used in Lab 12-1. This time, you will use two 3-way and one 4-way switch.
Instructions
Watch the example video, and then perform the lab.
- Follow the guidelines on the Lab Expectations page.
- Print off the drawing template found at the start of Module 11. (If you cannot print the drawing, draw the template on a piece of paper.)
- Write your initials in the "Drawn By:" section of the template drawing.
- Write the date in the "Date:" section of the template drawing.
- Write the lab number in the "Drawing #" section of the template drawing.
- Write the title of the lab in the "title" section of the template drawing.
- Legibly draw up the following schematic using the drawing template and drawing legend. (Note: Refer to AMAR-1200-01 - AC Amps Measurement.pdf and AMAR-1200-02 - DC Amps Measurement.pdf found in previous modules for examples on how to properly draw a schematic.)
- Draw AC input to 24 VAC transformer.
- Draw all circuit breakers in the system.
- Draw a 240 V receptacle on the 30 amp double-pole breaker.
| |
Note! |
|
| |
The 240 V receptacle has two hot legs (use one red and one black wire), and the neutral (white wire) is wired in the center with a hot leg on each side. There is no ground on a 3-prong 240 V receptacle. The 4-prong 240 V receptacles have 2 hots, a neutral, and a ground. |
|
- On the 15-amp breaker add a 120 V receptacle.
- On the 20-amp breaker add a 3-way, 4-way, 3-way to turn on a single light bulb. Add it to your schematic as shown.

- Label all wires with the appropriate color.
- Wire up the circuit per your drawing.
- Show that the circuit works.
- Measure the voltage at the receptacle. Clearly show this in the video.
- Measure the voltage at the 240 V receptacle. Measure from each hot leg to neutral, and then measure from hot leg to hot leg. Clearly show this in the video.
