From the National Center for Next Generation Manufacturing (NCNGM), this video presents a typical day for Jeff, a biomanufacturing supervisor at work for Becton Dickinson, a medical technology company in Connecticut. Jeff describes his interests in problem solving and improving products- he works in a section of the company that creates, sterilizes, and packages retractable syringes. He describes his daily activities, including meeting with personnel, production reports, inventory, and payroll. Becton Dickinson offers the opportunities for associates to advance within the company, tuition reimbursement, and in house training programs. Advanced technical skills are needed in the manufacturing sector, and many job opportunities exist with competitive pay and good benefits. The video is one of a series from the Center intended to help students and future technicians understand the day-to-day responsibilities and skill needs of different manufacturing careers. They are a helpful addition to any introductory manufacturing classroom or to the recruitment resource arsenal of manufacturing programs at community or technical colleges.
