This resource, published by the Nanotechnology Applications and Career Knowledge Support (NACK) Center at Pennsylvania State University, is an 11-page guide for a lab activity where students synthesize and perform spectrophotometric analysis on silver nanoparticles. During the lab, students will:

  • Demonstrate the appropriate use of a spectrophotometer.
  • Observe differences in physical properties at the nanoscale.
  • Convert between different units of measurement.

The student portion of the lab guide includes a brief introduction to lab concepts, equipment needed, the lab procedure, tables for entering lab data, and student questions. The teacher notes portion of the guide includes sample data, an answer key, and instructions for preparing the solutions used in the lab.
