Diagnostics for All: Teaching Relevance of Science and Engineering to Solving Societal Problems

This lesson, presented by the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure, focuses on diagnostic methods of investigation looking at the issue of HIV/AIDS. In this activity, students will explore "the societal impacts of engineering and science, specifically as it relates to the AIDS epidemic in developing countries. The activity highlights the development of low-cost paper diagnostics for rapid and private diagnosis of AIDS and diseases related to AIDS (TB, other sexually transmitted diseases, etc.)." This activity will take two 50 minute classroom sessions.
