Mathematics for Photonics Education: Trigonometry

This lecture, presented by John Chamberlain, covers the basics of trigonometry as the concept relates to photonics education. In 25 minutes, Chamberlain explains the basics of right angles and trigonometry, Pythagorean triples, and trigonometric ratios. Once the basics are covered, Chamberlain provides numerous examples of these concepts in action, including use of the Pythagorean Theorem while driving, the distance between pulleys, and angles of windows and ladders. Upon completion of the lecture, students should be able to apply the Pythagorean theorem to solve problems and use trigonometry functions (and their inverses) and know when to apply them.
