Professional Development Workshop on Integrating Geospatial Technology into the HS Classroom

Collection Description:

This collection from the GeoTech Consortium of Western New York (GTCWNY) features material related to the Professional Development Workshop on Integrating Geospatial Technology into the High School Classroom hosted by GTCWNY. There were two cohorts of the workshop and a reunion held. Throughout the workshop, participants discussed Geographic Information Systems (GIS) education, ways to implement GIS into classroom materials, and examples of GIS activities. Material primarily consists of presentation slides and handouts from the 2015 workshop, 2016 workshop, and the reunion workshop hosted in 2017. The GIS activities developed by GTCWNY and other material related to the workshop are available to view separately.

Collection Contents:

Workshop materials are included from each cohort and the reunion workshop. Cohort one materials include an introductory presentation, agendas, and resource sheets. Cohort two includes another introductory presentation, agendas, a resource sheet, and a GIST implementation document. Reunion materials include a presentation and agenda.

Presentations include an overview of GIS classroom implementation, and updates on the Geospatial Information Science Technology (GIST) certificate program and examples of GIS implementation in High School education for the reunion workshop. Documents include agendas for each day of the workshop, sheets with GIS resources and organizations, and an observation sheet for measuring the success of classroom GIS activities.
