DACUM and Delphi Study for Strengthening the Industry 4.0 Workforce through Virtual Reality Training

This 72-page report, prepared by Dr. Tina Koepf for the Automotive Manufacturing Technical Education Collaborative (AMTEC), outlines the results of a two-part study designed to identify competencies and skills necessary for Industry 4.0 technicians. The study included DACUM and Delphi methodologies.
A panel of subject matter experts was brought together to develop the DACUM. These experts created a detailed duty and task list with essential job functions and supporting knowledge, tools, and behaviors for Industry 4.0 roles. Competency areas include cybersecurity, robotics, data analytics, system integration, predictive maintenance, tracking systems, and more.
During the Delphi phase of the study, a larger group of industry and academic professionals rated the importance of these competencies using a structured and anonymous feedback process.
This report describes the scope of work, the DACUM workshop, competencies, competencies rated by the panel, the Delphi rating scale, the rating summary, and more. Two appendices are also included. Appendix A contains a sorted DACUM and the final DACUM, which includes tools, equipment, calculations, communications, technology, and safety. Appendix B includes Delphi ratings by demographic group.
