Sanger Method: Determining the Termination
This 8-page curriculum resource from 3D Molecular Designs teaches students about Sanger sequencing, also known as the chain termination method. Sanger sequencing was the first practical method for DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sequencing. By completing the activities in this worksheet packet, students model how Sanger sequencing “builds on the biochemical processes involved in DNA replication.” The activities also model how the applications of DNA sequencing have impacted industry. Topics explored include the Human Genome Project, specific steps in the Sanger method, a comparison between the Sanger method and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, and DNA sequencing processes developed after the Sanger method.
