The National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI) Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Convocation is an end-of-program technical conference (2-3 days) held at one of the sites that conduct their own REU Programs. The Nebraska Nanoscale Facility and Nebraska Center for Materials and Nanoscience will host the convocation in August 2024, where REU students will get excellent exposure to academic, research, and industry professionals in the field. Participants from NNCI REU site programs will present their results in poster and oral formats and network with their peers. This is a wonderful culmination of the research experience.

The National Center for Autonomous Technologies and its maritime partners are offering a Marine Technology Summer Camp experience for undergraduate and high school students. This 5-day camp is being hosted at the University of Washington (UW) and will focus on Global Ocean Biogeochemical (GO-BGC) float technology.

MATE FLOATS! - Marine Technology Camp is taught by UW School of Oceanography Float Engineer Rick Rupan with assistance from UW undergraduate students. During this camp, students will have the opportunity to sail on board the UW R/V Rachel Carson. 

The Fourth Virtual Hackathon for Developing CURES in Antibody Engineering will be held August 5-8th, 2024! Applications will be opened on April 1st. This event is free and mostly virtual. 

Participants work together in teams to develop research projects that undergraduate students will carry out in courses where they study biotechnology or related topics. Hackathon participants will learn about the uses of antibodies in diagnostics, research, and therapeutics, develop new skills in immunology-related bioinformatics programs and databases, learn about new laboratory techniques for working with antibodies, and become part of an exciting community. Faculty and students with varying levels of experience in working with antibodies are encouraged to apply.  Participants will be selected based on experience and motivation to attend. Applicants from community colleges will receive the highest priority.

These workshops present overviews of the world of nanotechnology. Participants will learn about the growing applications of nanotechnology in many areas and the basics of nanofabrication processes. The three-day workshops are broken down into daily lectures by CNEU staff and lab sessions on nanofabrication in the CNEU teaching cleanroom. Additional workshop details, hotel information, and finanical support details will be included in a confirmation email.
 

Target audience: Post secondary and secondary science and technology educators with a desire to create additional learning opportunities for their students.
Possible Topics: Cleanroom safety, Vacuum, Evaporation, Metrology, Lithography, SEM, AFM, Etching, CVD, and ideas on how to implement these into your lessons, courses, and programs.

Join this workshop from FLATE to learn about leveraging the capabilities of Raspberry Pi to develop an edge computing system to demonstrate data collection and analysis.

The surge in cloud computing, notably Amazon Web Services (AWS), has been significant. Understanding and utilizing these services have become crucial for educators, particularly in teaching information technology and cybersecurity programs. The "AWS Cloud Essentials" course is tailored specifically for community college educators, offering a comprehensive toolkit to harness the potential of cloud computing within the educational sphere. Through engaging lab activities, participants will immerse themselves in the core concepts of AWS, gaining a profound comprehension of cloud computing principles, services, and best practices. This course covers a spectrum of topics, from storage solutions to computational resources, equipping educators with the tools to seamlessly integrate cloud technology into their curriculum, courses, and teaching methodologies and fostering innovation and collaborative learning environments for students.

Throughout the course, participants will actively participate in hands-on exercises, collaborative team projects, interactive discussions, and real-world case studies facilitated by seasoned instructors with expertise in education and cloud computing. Community college educators will emerge equipped with the confidence and competence to leverage AWS cloud services effectively, enriching student learning and equipping them with the skills necessary for success in an increasingly digital world.  

This workshop is funded and tailored specifically for community and technical college faculty members wishing to expand their knowledge, earn an industry certification, and strengthen their ability to incorporate new cybersecurity content in their community college curriculum. This workshop is not intended for students or other non-faculty participants.

The EvaluateUR Method is used to evaluate programs in different educational settings: independent undergraduate research, classroom-based research, and collegiate engineering and technology design competitions. The EvaluateUR Method measures student learning by providing statistically reliable assessments in a wide variety of outcome categories, including disciplinary and employability skills.

A unique feature of the EvaluateUR Method is the growth of student academic self-awareness, often called metacognition. The EvaluateUR Method serves as a tool for students, helping them build that awareness and use it to improve their learning.

EvaluateUR-CURE (E-CURE) is a version of the method specifically designed for students conducting research in a course (often called a CURE). E-CURE allows instructors to select a sub-set from a list of knowledge and skills – referred to as outcome categories – that best fit the learning goals of their course. This feature enables faculty to focus on a ‘core’ set of outcomes of particular relevance to their course research assignment(s). There also is an option for the CURE instructor to add additional learning outcomes.

E-CURE includes several options: (1) two-semester CURE; (2) one-semester CURE; and (3) shorter duration/smaller scale research project.
