Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD): Evaporator Practice

This 3-page lab, from the Nanotechnology Applications and Career Knowledge Resource Center (NACK Center), focuses on physical vapor deposition and the use of a Cooke thermal evaporator to gain experience with the evaporation process. The background section covers concepts like crystal thickness monitor, z-factor, and the mass density of various metals. During the activity, students will perform two successful aluminum depositions with the Cooke thermal evaporator and work through 10 questions.
