Liftoff and Surface Modification Lab

This 3-page lab, from the Nanotechnology Applications and Career Knowledge Resource Center (NACK Center), is designed to help students explore the adhesion properties of different metals when applied to various substrates through hands-on experimentation. During the lab, students employ hard baking photoresist and plasma surface treatments to discover what combination yields the best results. Students will "investigate the effect of metal adhesion for aluminum and gold on silicon and silicon dioxide." After the experiment, students will complete a short set of questions and find and summarize a peer-reviewed reference on the liftoff process.
